Subsidy to help you buy a wig

Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand offers a subsidy on wigs for those suffering from hair loss due to medical conditions, or treatments like chemotherapy.

To be eligible for the subsidy you must be a New Zealand citizen or ordinarily resident in New Zealand.

With a Medical Certificate from your doctor, you can either make the claim yourself or ask a wig supplier to claim on your behalf.

The amount it covers will vary depending on whether you are a legal adult or not, and whether your hair loss is temporary or permanent.

The subsidy will not cover the full cost of your wig, so you will be required to pay the difference.
